Los Inocentes Ranch, Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Our day began with a wake-up call from our expedition leader, we were going to leave our vessel for more than a couple of hours, as a matter of fact, we would spend our day at “Los Inocentes” Ranch. This ranch is located at the base of an extinct volcano named “Orosi”. This volcano is the last tall peak of the Guanacaste Mountain Range on the northern most part of Costa Rica.
Decisions, decisions! So many choices and such little time… What should we do?
We were to choose between horseback riding, walking, take a tractor pull, staying in the swimming pool or simply staying at the house in a hammock. Most of us chose to ride horses along a riparian forest strip. As the horses walked along the trail they know so well and as we listened to the calls of birds and monkeys, we had to stop and marvel on our willingness to reconnect with nature.
All of the groups were rewarded with sightings of monkeys, always a favorite, plenty of species of birds and plants, and butterflies and dragonflies galore. After a delicious lunch and a well-deserved time in the pool, we came back on board. We repositioned the ship into the sheltered bay of Santa Elena for some snorkeling.
Life rarely gets better than this!
