Bartolome and Santiago Islands
It is always special to come out of your beds, looking at a nice sunrise, and realize that the landscape in front of your eyes makes you think that you are on another planet. The “moonscape” that we saw today was spectacular. The creatures that we saw here were definitely from another world. It is hard to believe that you can swim and snorkel with penguins without a wetsuit. Or, that you can see a penguin standing on a lava rock with cacti and mangrove trees in the background.
Today was full of great experiences. We watched a pair of sea turtles mating, we spotted octopus and sharks underwater, we saw a hawk flash past overhead (see today’s photo) and we walked along the shoreline exploring the inter-tidal pools where baby sea lions frolicked. These amazing sightings and enjoyable events have brought our trip to a great finale.
