Santa Cruz Island

Is there any better color than the turquoise of the waters of Academy Bay, in Santa Cruz Island? Is there any better conservation program than the breeding and raising program of Galapagos giant tortoises? Are there any people friendlier than the ones from Puerto Ayora? What can I say? This is a unique place with wonderful inhabitants. Some of our naturalists are from this town, and their eyes shine when we get to their island. And I am sure that they shine not only because of the joy of meeting their friends and family again, but also because of their deep love for their home island, Santa Cruz.

This is the second largest island, this is the one where we see the giant tortoises, and this is also the island with the headquarters of the National Park Service and the Charles Darwin Research Station. Here we learn more about their magnificent conservation programs. We see with our own eyes the good things happening. We walk along town and experience the kindliness of its people, and ride to the humid highlands to enjoy an “Elf” giant Sunflower forest and a walk amongst enormous primitive reptiles, the tortoises. A big hurray to Santa Cruz!
