Fernandina

It isn’t only our Zodiacs that are blowing in the wind this morning. The absence of clouds and humidity due to the gusts allow for a formidable view of the shield volcanoes of Isabela and Fernandina.

We are faced with wildlife with every step we take! As the iguanas meander on their way to the edge of the sea and sealions nurse their new born pups on our long and winding trail, we realize that this is something the best writer could never fully describe. Whilst the greatest show on earth is unfolding, we observe the stark presence of the island’s predators, namely the great blue heron and Galapagos hawk. But the show must go on!

Watching the untimely efforts of the remaining iguanas on the rocks, we realize that time is on their side. Once in the water, the undulating movements of their bodies make it seem as though every little thing they do is magic.

The snorkeling in our cool waters allowed for super views of giant marine turtles and grazing marine iguanas. The sneaky King Neptune and his pirates didn’t forgive this though. After crossing the equator, he baptized all in the name of his beloved sea creatures.
