Bartolome and Santiago Islands
There are many ways to perpetuate the strong feelings that the natural world evokes in its observers. Memories can be so intense that we are always looking for better ways to keep them with us. Taking photographs is a favorite hobby of many people all over the world. For some people it is a passion. I have always referred to pictures as printed memories; they are a great way to remember. This week we have on board the Polaris a group of avid and enthusiastic photographers. We also have a group of nature lovers on board, who take plenty of their own pictures but just aren’t quite as fanatical about it! Photographic gear was part of all of our lives these past days: cameras, tripods, rolls of film, memory flash cards, computers, etc.
Opportunities to capture wildlife on film are extraordinary in the Galapagos Islands. It is not only the abundance of animal species but also their approachability that makes this archipelago a genuine Mecca for photographers. If you add to this, fascinating facts, and beautiful and breathtaking landscapes, then the Galapagos Islands become one of the wildest dreams a photographer can have. Enchantment and satisfaction can be observed in each one of their pictures. Just take a look at this wonderful picture. It is a delightful combination of wildness, naivety and beauty.
