Genovesa Island
A day on the island of Genovesa is a day in paradise, especially if you are a photographer participant on Lindblad’s Photo Expedition. In fact, all of the Galápagos Islands are a photographer’s dream! The wildlife here ignores our presence, which makes capturing great images easy, no matter what level of photo experience you have.
This morning, we landed on a small coral beach hidden in the corner of Darwin Bay to observe and capture on film (or pixels): frigate birds in flight, red-footed boobies and swallow-tailed gull chicks being fed by their parents.
Tucked in one corner of the beach was a sea lion pup less than one week old. We waited patiently for the napping youngster to awaken. Lapping waves of the rising tide finally stirred him from his rest. Then he became very curious about his observers, approaching us to get a good sniff. Mom called him to return to her, but not before dozens of shutters captured the image of a wild mother sea lion with her adorable offspring.
We cooled off with a snorkel in the refreshing waters of the bay while our cameras recovered from over-use. There’s a lot more to photograph tomorrow!
